About
In a time of racial reckoning, the Biden Administration and Congress, as well as many state legislatures, are finally starting to address health inequities faced by people of color. Women of color have experienced the brunt of health disparities due to their marginalization in this country. Policymakers, at every level, must begin to address the significant issues that are exacerbating historical disparities faced by these women. In order to do that, structural and systemic racism must be treated as a public health issue impacting the health and well-being of women and girls, particularly women and girls of color. Moreover, the need for culturally humble healthcare providers is a priority if we are to eliminate racial disparities in health outcomes.
The YWCA in collaboration with HUED, Inc. is holding a 2 ½ day virtual summit to discuss the most significant issues impacting the health and well-being of women of color, and ways to address these issues through policy at the local, state, and federal levels. Attendees will not only hear from thought leaders and policy experts, but they will be able to work together to help craft potential policy solutions to healthcare issues such as maternal health inequities, climate justice, reproductive justice, and childcare.
